Harry Potter

I was looking up some info for my niece who is a Harry Potter fan and she’s off to visit Scotland.

Here are a few locations in Scotland that are part of the films:

The famous Glenfinnan Viaduct can be seen be seen in the flying car sequence in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. The Fort William to Mallaig railway line crosses the Glenfinnan valley via the spectacular Glenfinnan Viaduct. The viaduct is about 100 feet above the ground and spans 1000 feet across the valley using 21 huge arch supports. The Viaduct can be found approximately 20 miles west of Fort William. The line is no longer part of the British Rail network but it may be possible to take a train journey across the viaduct.

West Highland Railway Line – Scotland
This railway line was used for the train journey to Hogwarts. The West Highland Railway Line runs 42 miles from Fort William to Mallaig. The train passes through some of the scenery shown in the Harry Potter films, including Ben Nevis and the lochs and rugged countryside of Glen Nevis.

Glen Nevis, Fort William – Scotland
This area was used in the Quidditch scenes as the background landscape. Steall Falls, the waterfall at the base of the mountain, is where Harry’s battle with the dragon takes place.
